End 2008 With Viggo's Message
Here's wishing all creatures on this earth luck, love, and good health in winter and in summer as we go into what most people like to call 2009. Of course, it is not possible for every being to live lucky and healthy lives all at once, but we can be loving. There are choices we can make, from moment to moment. We can join ourselves and others, choose to see the ties that unite us, feed us, make our lives what they actually are. We at Perceval Press certainly thank you for participating in our journey.
A special Happy 100th Birthday wish to the Montreal Canadiens - Joyeux Anniversaire! To all fans of San Lorenzo de Almagro I suggest that, now that we have spoken our minds about the perceived misfortunes and systemic injustices of the championship that closed out our centennial year of 2008, we look to the unfolding present, heads high, and get on with life. HAPPY BIRTHDAY VIGGO!

May all your dreams come true.
Thank you for being born fifty years ago, and for serving as my inspiration with your art, with your mannerisms, with your truth and honesty, with your courage to speak the truth, and most of all, with your kindness towards strangers and friends alike without ever wanting anything in return.
Birthday
by Louise Gluck
There was an apple tree in the yard –
this would have been
forty years ago – behind,
only meadows. Drifts
of crocus in the damp grass.
I stood at that window:
late April. Spring
flowers in the neighbor’s yard.
How many times, really, did the tree
flower on my birthday,
the exact day, not
before, not after? Substitution
of the immutable
for the shifting, the evolving.
Substitution of the image
for relentless earth. What
do I know of this place,
the role of the tree for decades
taken by a bonsai, voices
rising from the tennis courts –
Fields. Smell of the tall grass, new cut.
As one expects of a lyric poet.
We look at the world once, in childhood.
The rest is memory.

Make A Wish For Viggo Encounter

CALL ME a freak, but before I die, I would like to meet Viggo Mortensen. Perhaps to hear him speak or listen to him read his poems. Or maybe just walking down the street in the middle of St Louis one day, and I might see him walking towards me. He would walk by me and I, being too shy or timid to stare openly, will probably steal a glance at him. I'd probably curse at myself later for not asking for autograph but more than likely, I would let him passby without being bothered by me and my childish obsession. If I am lucky, he might ask me for time which I would then have to fumble to reach my cell phone to look up the time since I don't wear any watch. Whatever form it may be, any tiny moment of seeing Viggo in real life would be a dream come true. Odds are that l'd pass this life without ever having a chance to see him in person. But that does not mean that I have to abandon my hopes.
Sometimes, somehing are worth dreaming about no matter how impossible they are, and seeing Viggo in real life would definitely be one of them. Go ahead, call me a freak. When the shoe fits..

Always A True Fan

Viggo's Message From percevalpress
This time he posted his picture also, a rare occurrence from a man who likes to keep low profile.
"Dear Mets,
Thank you for playing as hard as you could. My heart goes out to you all. I know it is especially hard for those players who were part of our team last year and the year before. Please remember, although it probably feels like small consolation at this point, that the most important thing in life really is how you play the game, not whether you win or lose. We true fans will be there for you next year and always. With respect and admiration,
Viggo Mortensen."
Gotta love a man so true to his heart. A Very Viggo declaration.

Viggo in The Hobbit?

I pray that this news is true:
From Variety:
Pre-production is about to get under way on the two-part "Hobbit." Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens are expected to pen the scripts under the direction of Peter Jackson and del Toro. Preliminary contact has already been made with at least three actors whose "Lord of the Rings" characters also appear in the "Hobbit" storyline: Viggo Mortensen (Aragorn), Ian McKellen (Gandalf) and Andy Serkis (Gollum).
"We will all be involved in the script in some fashion but the exact definition is about a week away, " said del Toro. "I am all for keeping the actors who originated the parts, as much as availability and their willingness will allow."

Google Grants Blog: Grant recipients helping victims of Cyclone Nargis
Google's matching donation program doubles your contribution as it matches what you donate with its contribution up to $1 million. This site highlights the grant recipients of Google.
Please contribute as much as you can, and also spread the word about this donation program. Even if you can only donate $10 (which I believe is the lowest amount you can donate through google), it will have become $20 with Google's matching program. If you spread the word and urge people, pretty soon, we will make that $1 million mark.
So far, I have managed to convince two people at work to contribute through Google. I don't know how much they donated, but that's two more donors than what we had a week ago. Every attempt to raise funds counts towards making a difference in someone's life over in Burma.
Let's make it happen.

Oscar dream

My dream for Viggo's Oscar has long been busted, but that does not mean that I still cannot reminisce about that night.
Look at my beautiful Viggo with his adorable niece above.
I wish I know what Viggo's brothers look like. I am assuming all are gorgeous intelligent men. Can you imagine The Mortensens clan get togethers? Judging from the gene pool, I will say heads will definitely turn!
Viggo's message from perceval press

As the dust has by now nearly settled on the release of "Eastern Promises" in theatres and on DVD around the world, I take this opportunity to wish the good and honest law enforcement professionals in Russia and in all other countries continued courage and luck. We need you now more than ever in our troubled times. It is to those all too few noble individuals that I dedicated my impersonation of 'Nikolai Luzhin'. Thank you for your brave efforts to serve truth, compassion, and justice. V.M.
He actually posted it a while back, but I just now reposted it as I've been behind in updating this blog. My apologies! I know there is no coverage of his oscar news on this site either. I've been religiously following his news but just have not been updating the blog due to illness or laziness or blogger's apathy.
But, of course, my love and devotion to this unique man with the admirable vision, impeccable integrity (artistic and humanistic) and a big heart, not only stay strong and true, but also continue to grow every day.
Love thy Viggo.

Viggo -the Master of Talents
Masters of War
Come you masters of war
You that build all the guns
You that build the death planes
You that build the big bombs
You that hide behind walls
You that hide behind desks
I just want you to know
I can see through your masks
You that never done nothin'
But build to destroy
You play with my world
Like it's your little toy
You put a gun in my hand
And you hide from my eyes
And you turn and run farther
When the fast bullets fly
Like Judas of old
You lie and deceive
A world war can be won
You want me to believe
But I see through your eyes
And I see through your brain
Like I see through the water
That runs down my drain
You fasten the triggers
For the others to fire
Then you set back and watch
When the death count gets higher
You hide in your mansion
As young people's blood
Flows out of their bodies
And is buried in the mud
You've thrown the worst fear
That can ever be hurled
Fear to bring children
Into the world
For threatening my baby
Unborn and unnamed
You ain't worth the blood
That runs in your veins
How much do I know
To talk out of turn
You might say that I'm young
You might say I'm unlearned
But there's one thing I know
Though I'm younger than you
Even Jesus would never
Forgive what you do
Let me ask you one question
Is your money that good
Will it buy you forgiveness
Do you think that it could
I think you will find
When your death takes its toll
All the money you made
Will never buy back your soul
And I hope that you die
And your death'll come soon
I will follow your casket
In the pale afternoon
And I'll watch while you're lowered
Down to your deathbed
And I'll stand o'er your grave
'Til I'm sure that you're dead

Viggo mentions on the net
examiner.com
""It's kind of odd to finally win the lottery and there's nobody at the ticket booth," said first-time nominee Viggo Mortensen, who earned a best-actor slot for the crime tale "Eastern Promises."
dallasnews
The nearly three-month strike made Viggo Mortensen's first Oscar nomination bittersweet.
"It's kind of odd to finally win the lottery and there's nobody at the ticket booth," he said. "I'm sure my mom would like to see me on TV and so forth. But if there's a strike, I'm not crossing the line."
He added that media conglomerates should "have the decency to stop blaming the union and sit down at the table and make a fair deal and they can have a ceremony and they can starting making movies and TV shows again."

Validation for Viggo

"Forget about those 11 Oscar nominations for The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King. How does 15 sound? That’s the astonishing number of Goya Award nominations the Mortensen film released in between his Cronenberg pair, Alatriste, earned for 2007. All in all, Mortensen is on a heck of a roll, and when you throw in his sideline activities as a poet, photographer and jazz musician, the very definition of a 21st century Renaissance Man."

Oscar For Viggo!

Congratulations to Viggo for much deserved Oscar nomination as best actor!!
Hope the strike will be over soon, so that we (as well as his mother)will get to see him attend and collect his Oscar on TV.
Read the story HERE.
""If there's a strike I will not go," the Best Actor nominee told the Associated Press on Tuesday, shortly after this year's nominations were announced, "but I have a feeling they'll solve it. I hope they do. I'm sure my mom would like to see me on TV."

Boo to Golden Globe Awards
No matter. There is always Oscar to hope for, although like Gandalf said "There never was much hope, just a fool's hope".
As Viggo had quoted Churchill on awards (medals) "Never seek them. Always accept them. Never wear them".
On a footnote; I am glad that Johnny Depp finally won.

Found it through viggo-works.com which credited to dandelionpress
If you find yourself agreeing with Dennis Kucinich, but are thinking of voting for more electable candidates in the Democractic Primaries, please hear Viggo out. It is worth listening to him urging you to vote your conscience.

Viggo's comment from Perceval Press

When a television network has the power to decide which candidates are "worthy" of addressing the American people, it robs the American people of their most precious right to the free flow of information and dissenting points of view. I am an artist mostly known for acting in movies, but I am also a citizen and a voter who resents the control that big money, big media, and entrenched political interests have in deciding what I should see, what I should hear, and what I should be allowed to think. ABC and other media censoring Dennis Kucinich- and others legitimately running for the office of President of the United States- by not allowing them to be part of televised debates is, in my opinion, an outrageous manipulation of and disservice to the public, as well as a criminal misuse of public airwaves. If you agree, please make your objections known to ABC and other media outlets similarly restricting public speech and political information. Thank you,
Viggo Mortensen.
Viggo's day with Kucinich
Can't really see Viggo but can hear him speak. Listen to his take on Chuck Norris at the end. Love that Viggo.

Another piece about Viggo's help for Kucinich

From New York Observer:
The Fellowship: Viggo Stand With Dennis Kucinich
by Choire Sicha | January 6, 2008The actor Viggo Mortensen was so ticked off by the exclusion of Dennis Kucinich from last night's debates that he got on the red eye to New Hampshire. He stood on a table with the Democratic candidate in the storefront headquarters in Concord, N.H., this afternoon, and spoke softly about the debates. "You have four people up there, no disrespect to any of them, who are cherrypicking from what Dennis is talking about."
"If you're going to steal from Dennis and not let him be on TV, then steal all of it...."Read the story HERE
"
Viggo Campaigns For Kucinich

"His decision to come to New Hampshire was prompted in large part by ABC's decision to exclude Kucinich from last night's Democratic Presidential debate.
"When a television network has the power to decide which candidates are 'worthy' of addressing the American people, it robs the American people of their most precious right to the free flow of information and dissenting points of view," Mortensen said. "I am an actor, but I am also a citizen and a voter who resents the control that big money, big media, and entrenched political interests have in deciding what I should see, what I should hear, and what I should be allowed to think."
